simply be

One of my favorite things about my life is the peace that I find early in the mornings on Saturday and Sunday. I usually wake up early and gather my notebook, a good book, and some hot coffee; I curl up in my chair, and tuck my warm blue blanket under my toes. And I rest. I rest, held safely and securely in that peace and quietness. Sometimes, I don't even open my book, or write any words in my notebook. I definitely enjoy the coffee, and I always go back to the kitchen for a second, sometimes third cupful!

I'll watch the sunrise, and listen to the birds singing. The sunrise and sunset have always inspired me. I remember when I was younger, when I was first really and truly writing, I crafted word collections describing the beauty of the sunrises and sunsets.

There are answers in the stillness, in the solitude. I think we forget how important it is to simply be. Ignore our smart phones, turn off the television, and simply just be. We have so much information clouding our minds, assaulting us on such a constant basis. There's no reason we need to refresh Facebook every five minutes, or to constantly check Twitter, or the news. For me, it's extremely rejuvenating to not be connected to everyone, for a moment, or maybe for a few hours.

We just need to take time for ourselves. Time away from the rest of the world. We need to give ourselves the gift of serenity and solitude. We only have so many minutes on earth, and we need to make them count.
